Why I’m Pursuing My Passion to Write

For as long as I can remember, I've always had a desire to write. I love the written word. I love books. I love reading. I Really love reading aloud to kids. Writing, however, is complicated. I think it stems from the fact that I’ve read enough of what I would consider “good” writing (some “great” even), that the thought of creating something that I would deem “worthy” of publishing has always left my hands clammy and my stomach achy. Even still, there is perhaps a bigger part of me that longs to share my thoughts, my hopes, and my desires by way of the written word. While blogging is enjoyable, for whatever reason I find it less intimidating. In this crazy, hectic, technology-obsessed world that we live in, it feels almost romantic and even a bit nostalgic to write an actual book.

Moms everywhere can relate to the desire to do something for ourselves amidst the constant demands of family life. Whether it's going back to school, taking up a new hobby, finally starting that business you've been dreaming about for years, or even buying a house sight unseen in Belize (although, I wouldn't recommend that one for the faint of heart), there's nothing like pursuing our passions to make us feel alive again. And while it's not always easy to find the time or energy to do what we love, it's so important that we do. Not just for ourselves, but also for our families. Because when Mom is happy, everyone is happy.

So, I've been taking a step forward in pursuing my passion to write by setting aside some time each day to work on my book. While I would have preferred the atmosphere and scenery of Belize as a backdrop for my time spent writing, I have accepted that's not what is best for my kids right now. And there will be plenty of time for lounging seaside when our children head off to college. So this. . . well, this feels like a pretty good start at chasing after those dreams. Who knows? Maybe someday soon you'll be reading my words in an actual book instead of on this screen.

Here's the point that I want to make crystal clear to anyone who has managed to read this far (thank you, by the way): It's never too late to pursue your passion in life. Even if it's just a hot shower and a nap! I've been through that season of life, too. So today, take a step forward in pursuing YOUR passion, whatever that may be, and see where it takes you! You might just surprise yourself with what you're capable of accomplishing when you set your mind—and heart—to it.
